The Team of the National Sports Day has reviewed preparations for the 4th edition of the event which will be kicked off on March 7th. The event will feature the participation of a wide array of public and private entities as well as individuals across the UAE. It promises to be a unique event held this time during the Year of Tolerance.

The Team has held a meeting recently at the premises of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) chaired by Dr. Mai Al Jabir in the presence of members: Shareef Al-Awadhi, representative of Fujairah; Abdullah Salem Qanzul, representative of Umm Al Quwain; Mohammed Saeed bin Darwish, Executive Director of the NOC; Suzan Al Khalidi of Abu Dhabi Sports Council; Adel Al Bannai, Director of Community Activities at Dubai Sports Council; Saeed Al Ajil, Director of Cultural and Community Activities at Sharjah Sports Council; Sultan Rashid Al Zaabi from the Military Sports Education Center; Wedaad Ahmed Bu Humaid and Anoud Saeed Al Falasi from the Ministry of Health and Prevention as well as representatives from the Ministry of Education, Police Sports Federation, and UAE Women Sports Committee.

The meeting discussed plans aimed ensuring the success of the event from various aspects and that it will measure up to the noble objectives of the event launched by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, for the first time in 2015. The event was meant to be encompassing various community segments to practice sports activities in a way that reflects the importance of sport in the life of people, rendering it a lifestyle such that it will protect against diseases and ensure a healthy and happy life.

Attendees were delighted with the event being held this time around in the Year of Tolerance in the nation of tolerance and love. The sport supports that noble initiative through bringing together seniors, youngers, children and the people of a determination under one theme: The UAE Unites Us. The event is held under the directives of HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, President of the NOC cum Chairman of the Higher Committee for the National Sports Day.

The Team also noted that the event coincides with the World Games Special Olympics – Abu Dhabi 2019; which sends several important messages. This humanitarian showpiece brings together 7500 athletes and 3000 coaches from 190 countries to compete in 24 sports hosted by Abu Dubai in world-class facilities.

Dr Al Jabir said that the continuous improvements and the link with major events hosted by the UAE were part of the key success factors of the National Sports Day initiative, as various goals and objectives are in line with the message of this prominent community event.

“No doubt the sports umbrella brings together peoples with different languages ages and cultures in a nation with more than 200 nationalities living giving any initiative a unique nature and possible success. Various local and federation entities expressed readiness to take part in the event and make constructive proposals for the event. It will be a great opportunity for practising sports and entertainment activities by all participants on the same day together. It reflects the role of sport in social awareness rather than being limited to the practising of activities. It is also a huge gate for knowledge, friendship and the sharing of ideas and expertise,” she added.

“The National Sports Day initiative brings together different cultures and nationalities living in the UAE to compete and give their best in this event. The previous editions of the event were hugely successful as seen in various sports, recreational, traditional and physical events that had left a special impression amongst all participants,” said Mohammed bin Darwish, NOC Executive Director.

“Dedicating full 24 hours for practising land, aqua and aerial sports activities on the National Sports Day is a true manifestation of the event’s theme: The UAE Unites Us. All parties are doing their best to promote the event in the best possible shape to ensure the participation of the largest possible number of participants from various age groups. This all-encompassing event targets the seniors, youngers and people of determination as well as the staffs of various entities,” he added.
